Our Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training Program teaches yoga instructors how to work with members of vulnerable and under-resourced communities that have experienced trauma. This includes trauma survivors in the following five categories: domestic abuse, LGBTQ+, recovery, housing/food insecurity, and justice.

This program is suitable for yoga teachers with a 200-hour certification or more. Instructors gain access to our curriculum which is proven to be impactful and effective for working with trauma survivors.

Our next virtual Trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training (TIYTT) will be hosted on
Saturday, February 3rd and Sunday, February 4, 2024

We offer the following payment options:

  • $275 (Discounted Price: With a 26-hour volunteer commitment to be completed within a 6-month period)
  • $550 (Full Price: Without a volunteer commitment)

In addition to our payment options, we offer scholarship opportunities to yoga teachers needing financial assistance.

All scholarship applicants must complete our general Trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training Application and a Scholarship Application. Scholarship applications are due by December 1, 2023.

We encourage members of the BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and older adult communities to apply for our scholarships.

To receive your Trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training certification, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of our 20-hour Trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training Program,
  • Two class observations, and
  • Two trial teachings for all levels.

Description

You can expect long morning yoga and meditation sessions. We start with a daily meditation connected to our theme and move slowly from there into breath and movement. The yoga style is powerful and at the same time very tailored to the individual. All levels are welcome and attended to. We finish with deep relaxation and journaling questions designed for deepening clarity.
 
Our morning yoga session is followed by a healthy local ingredients-featured meal. During the day you will have a chance to relax on the beach, write, think, sleep, and integrate everything you discover. In the evening, we will enjoy restorative yoga, chakra alignment, and star gazing!
 
Optional daily time activities are incredible and include: surf/boogie board lessons, a guided trip to the rain forest, dolphin/whale watching, boat tours, zip lining, massage, sound therapy and MORE!
 
Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free Meals available. Special dietary accommodations can be supported upon request.

COSTA RICA

For decades, Costa Rica has been the first-choice place for yoga practitioners and seekers looking to unplug and find spiritual alignment. The country features some of the most unique and pristince ecology in the world, including beaches, rain forest and volcanoes. It is environmentally conscious and has a peaceful and sustainable sensability rarely found elsewhere. After an over three year pause on out of country retreats, I am elated to bring fellow travelers to such a sacred space.

The retreat center is specially designed with a unique architectural fingerprint and a magnificent interaction with the surrounding jungle. The property is a yoga haven, an exotic retreat, and a private resort experience all wrapped into one perfect getaway.

Room Descriptions

Casa Grande is a two story, luxury eco-lodge thoughtfully designed for communing with friends, family, and the natural world. Once merely a tent and a hammock, Tumbo has been transformed into a magnificent, open-air getaway built in perfect harmony with it’s surroundings. Surrounded by some of the jungle’s largest trees and most active animal corridors, the open-air design allows for ocean breezes and the echo of birds to flow throughout.

Rooms sleep 2-4 people and each have a private bathroom.

Casa Grande also has 2 outdoor showers, a kitchen dining area, and an outdoor seated area.

Other amenities include: Pool, BBQ Area, Bar Boa, Bodega (Pantry and Lock Room), Surround Sound, Hammocks


The Creekside Cabina is an intimate, two-room escape that gives you a sense of oneness with the natural world. The nearby creek babbles softly in the background, lulling you into undeniable relaxation.

This accommodation sleeps 4 and includes a bathroom, outdoor shower, kitchenette, and outdoor sitting area.


The Bungalow, located slightly higher on the property, is a rainforest paradise, with unobstructed views into the beautiful jungle gardens. Enjoy the unique, umbrella fabric rooms that blend right in with the surrounding forest.This accommodation sleeps 4.

Pre-covid, we know that over 70% of the US population had survived some form of trauma. Since the pandemic, those numbers have only risen. Trauma survivors and folks dealing with traumatic stress are in every room. They don’t wear signs, and they might not tell us. It is our job in corporate, school, or other shared settings to be aware of the hidden trauma that is in every room and to educate ourselves so that we don’t unintentionally do harm.

You can improve your skills by learning about trauma and implementing some simple, tangible techniques for creating safer spaces for your team and the folks you serve.

Thimo and Lara have combined over 35 years of experience in yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices. Their certifications include Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Mindfulness, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Chair Yoga, traditional Buddhist Meditation and Life-Coaching and as well they are certified Fasting Guides. Together Thimo’s German roots, and Lara’s New York City vibes bring a balance of energy which allows them to easily connect with practitioners of all levels and interests. Their reverence for nature has made the Catskills a natural home for them and is the inspiration for their present endeavours.

STREAMSIDE YOGA

Yoga classes are ongoing Tuesdays 9:15am-10:30am

Suggested donation is $20 due by 3pm Monday before class

Ashtanga is a powerful style of yoga that involves matching the movement of the breath with the movement in and out of postures. We use a set sequence of poses which we build upon as we grow together and which can be adapted to any level and ability. In this weekly class Lara emphasizes the three-pointed focus of breath, gaze, and posture and suggests ways for using this focus to transform the practice into a moving meditation. Prepare to sweat if you want to or move more slowly and have any pose modified to meet your needs.
